Excelerated Degree Programs
Adult students are similar in many ways to other students, but often their priorities in life will be different. Because of this, they have a different set of criteria when considering the benefits of an online degree program.
Often, tuition costs are the number one reason why an adult student does or does not attend a particular institution. The ability to get credit for life experience can also be a deciding factor in choosing which online program to attend. However, because of the responsibilities that an adult student usually has outside of their schooling, the amount of time it takes to finish a course will often be one of the most important factors.

There are many excelerated degree programs available from many of the top online colleges and universities out there. In order to determine which one is best for you, you need to understand what makes them different from regular length programs.
First, they are shorter. But this does not mean that there is less work involved – in fact, excelerated degree programs contain the same amount of information and work as a regular length course in less time. This means that while you are enrolled, your workload will be more intense but for a shorter amount of time.
Excelerated degree programs are usually half the length of a regular course. Since most courses span 16 weeks, this means that the shorter programs take 8 weeks to complete. This is ideal if you have other responsibilities in your life, and you do not want to focus on four or more different course subjects at a time. With excelerated degree programs, you can concentrate on two courses during the first eight weeks, and another two courses during the second eight weeks, and complete just as many courses in total as if you were enrolled in full time, regular length courses.
Rather than focusing on four, often unrelated and diverse subjects, you can focus on one or two at a time. This leaves room in your life for family, work or other personal obligations, and ensures that you won’t get bogged down or overwhelmed with school.
Excelerated degree programs require that students be prepared for a somewhat intense amount of work. From the first day of class, the pace of the lessons and assigned readings will prove to be double that of a traditional course. You may be assigned two or three chapters to read each week, and you will likely have one or more assignments due every week.
For many adult students, a faster pace with fewer courses at one time allows time for other responsibilities and life’s demands. It will keep you busy, but the ability to juggle school with family and work is a worthy cause.
