Are They Legitimate?
In the beginning online programs had a bit of a bad reputation. Many would question their legitimacy, and they were often not accepted in the workplace. That is currently changing, however. While there are some fraudulent institutions out there, many of the online programs are legitimate. Even some of the Ivy League colleges are offering online programs!
What to Look For
When looking for an accelerated online degree program, it is important to look for proper accreditation. Legitimate programs will have accreditation by one of the six regional accreditation agencies recognized by the Council for Higher Education. If you are having trouble determining accreditation of your particular program, you can visit their website or call their toll free number for more information.
How Long Will it Take?
The length of time it will take for you to complete an accelerated online degree program will depend on the program and the institution. However, on average you can complete a program in half the time it takes to complete a traditional campus based program. For example, an accelerated associate’s degree takes 12-18 months, and an accelerated bachelor’s degree takes 24-36 months. Keep in mind that you may need to take some prerequisites or remedial courses prior to beginning the program. This will depend on your entrance exam scores.
