Accelerated PhD Programs
Accelerated PhD programs are not much different from their traditional counterparts. They both have coursework and a dissertation requirement. The main difference is the means in which the coursework is delivered. Most accelerated programs are online.
Online courses in general have shorter semesters allowing students to get through this portion of the program at a much quicker pace than with a traditional program. In addition, online courses allow students to work at their own time and pace. This gives working adults the opportunity to earn their degree with minimal disruption to their work and family schedule.
The dissertation portion of the program is identical between accelerated and traditional programs. The time it takes to complete this part of the program depends on the student themselves and how much time they have to contribute to the process. Even online PhD programs will typically require that you perform a few on campus intensives during the PhD portion of the program.
Accelerated PhD programs are geared for professional adults that would like to earn their PhD in the quickest amount of time possible with little interference to their work and family commitments. There are currently many different universities and programs available.
