So how did Forbes come up with this list? An extensive analysis of surveys and data was done to come up with this list of top private colleges in the nation. Factors that were included were student evaluations of courses and faculty members. With over 4 million students giving their opinion, the list truly gave importance to how students see if they learn from their teachers and the courses they take. In fact, this evaluation had a weighted measure of 25% for the overall ranking.
The next important factor was based on the success of the graduates. The average salaries of the graduates were analyzed. This made up for 12.5% of the total ranking. Another 12.5% went to the number of alumni who are included in the latest edition of Who’s Who in America.
Other factors considered were graduation rate of 4-year degrees, 4-year debt load of students who borrow money for their schooling, students being granted nationally competitive awards, and members of the faculty receiving awards for their outstanding work and research.
