Accelerated Bachelor Degree Programs: How do they stack up against traditional degree programs?

If you’ve been looking at the most efficient way to obtain your bachelor degree, you’ve probably come across accelerated bachelor degree programs.  They’re certainly among one of the best bachelor degree options for those who have time constraints, but there are some special considerations you should keep in mind before enrolling in an accelerated program.

Reputation: Are traditional degrees better than accelerated degrees?

The reputation and credibility of your degree doesn’t hinge on whether or not you received it through an accelerated program.  An accelerated degree from a regionally accredited institution requires just as much commitment and dedication as a degree earned at the traditional pace.  However, you should keep in mind that the reputation of the university does matter.  This is particularly good to keep in mind when considering accelerated bachelor degree programs from online universities–not because online programs or universities are necessarily less reputable than brick-and-mortar institutions and the degrees they offer, but because given the nature of the Internet, there are more opportunities for scams online.  Always be certain that the university whose program you choose is one which you will be proud to have a diploma from.

Faster? More Convenient?  What are the pros and cons of accelerated bachelor degree programs?

Accelerated bachelor degree programs are certainly faster than traditional programs; you can often earn your degree in half the time–or less–than you would by completing a traditional program.  Whether or not accelerated bachelor degree programs will be more convenient or “easier” for you depends largely on your own situation, however.

Accelerated programs require the student to complete the same amount of credits as a traditional degree, but in less time.  This may be more convenient for you, but if you work especially long hours and have little time to devote to study, it may end up being more trouble than it’s worth to use an accelerated program.
