The good news?  There are so many more flexible options available for undergraduate and graduate level study that getting your degree is possible even if you have a strict time-line, multiple other obligations, are working full-time, etc.

The bad news?  Well, this part you already know.  There are so many options it’s hard to know where to start!  And the last thing you want is to get tied into yet another program that you can’t finish because it wasn’t what you expected, right?

So here’s a little primer on getting your fast degrees on line.  All of those ads can be confusing; every school is promoting their program as the fastest and most convenient.  But put aside the ads and brochures and take a few minutes to learn the basics.  When schools are advertising fast degrees on line, they may be advertising any one of several different methods of speeding up the degree earning process, or a combination of methods.  Understanding what each program means by “fast” will help you figure out which programs for fast degrees on line are for you.

• Accelerated Classes
  Accelerated classes are the same classes you’d normally take to earn your degree, but each class is condensed to a 6- or 8- week long course.
• Testing for Credits
  Make sure their testing program is a credible one.  CLEP & DANTES tests are accepted for credit nationwide.
• Prior Learning Assessment
  At reputable schools, PLA for credit is a stringent process.  It typically involves compiling a portfolio, and sometimes writing a thesis paper, both to be reviewed by the relevant academic department to assess whether or not your experience is equivalent to earned credit hours. PLA credits typicall do not transfer, so make sure it’s a program you’re going to finish if you’re depending on these.
