If your main concern in aspiring towards your degree is furthering your career, doing some research to choose the best major is a wise first step.

What are the Most Career Savvy Majors?

It’s impossible to predict, at any given time, what the job market will look like in four years, or even two.  Today’s most desirable degree might be tomorrow’s bottom-of-the-pile resume-killer.  But there are some basic things you can consider when you’re choosing between majors offered by online accelerated degree programs with your career in mind.

  1. A field with interdisciplinary potential
    What does that mean?  It means choosing online accelerated degree programs with a major that is useful in multiple fields or career options.  For example, take accounting.  All businesses require accounting; whether it’s an art gallery or a car dealership, someone’s got to manage the money.  Another example is computer sciences, or IT-related degrees.  Everything depends on some extent to computerized processes now.  Business majors find a great deal of opportunity in many career fields.  Combining one of these interdisciplinary, flexible application degrees with a specialized minor in a field you love can give you marketability even when that field is suffering due to economic crunch or other factors.
  2. Choose Online Accelerated Degree Programs in highly skilled, necessary professions
    You can’t get your nursing certification from an online program, but you can get the bachelor’s you’ll need to go into nursing or medicine.  Engineering degrees are another great option for those who want guaranteed desirability in the job market.
  3. Choose a major you’ll be motivated to do well in
    Online accelerated degree programs aren’t going to do you a bit of good if you aren’t motivated to succeed.  Don’t major in business if you hate business; don’t major in engineering if you’re terrible at math.  You’ll have more success finding a career when you’re really dedicated to doing well in it, and that begins with school.
