Quick Online Degrees and Programs

by Christopher Ramey

I needed a degree.

Despite all of the experience I had in my field, the job market is just so competitive right now.  Without a Bachelor’s, I was only getting callbacks on entry level positions.  That’s why I started researching quick online degrees and programs.

But how to choose a program?

I realized after only a little browsing that there were a lot of options–and a lot of unsavory diploma mills.  I didn’t want to fake my degree, I just wanted to get it quickly!  It was so frustrating.  Choosing which program is hard enough, with so many reputable quick online degrees and programs available, but on top of that I had to sort out the fakes too!

My first goal was to avoid diploma mills.

The really obvious ones–”Get your degree in 24 hours!”–were easy to dismiss.  But there were others that offered quick online degrees and programs that I discovered were less than credible, too.  It wasn’t as hard to sort through them as I thought it would be, thankfully.  Accreditation was my litmus test.  If they were accredited by one of the regional accreditation associations recognized by the government, they went into the “good” pile.  If they weren’t it didn’t matter how flashy their online degrees and programs looked, I wasn’t buying.  Granted, there are unaccredited universities that are reputable–but they’re few and far between.  And I was in a hurry!

Then I wanted to know what to expect from accredited quick online degrees and programs.

I wanted to know how quickly I could expect to get my degree, whether the credits I already had would transfer, and how much I’d have to pay.  Most accelerated courses took about 8 weeks, so how fast really depended on how many courses I was willing to take at once.  My credits did transfer, and the cost was so much lower than traditional college classes!
